I've been working on this through the evening and am not getting anywhere. I am getting horrid numbers from hdparm:
Code: |
# hdparm -tT /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 1944 MB in 2.00 seconds = 971.18 MB/sec
HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(null) (wait for flush complete) failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
Timing buffered disk reads: 26 MB in 4.56 seconds = 5.70 MB/sec
HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(null) (wait for flush complete) failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device

I've been looking at BIOS, and hdparm settings. Nothin is making a dent. I think perhaps this is what comes from buying bargain basement PCs ; I picked this one up new from Outpost for $229 (AMD64, 40GB HD, 256Meg, DVD/CDRW, etc - I added an FX5200, 1GB, and the WD80 SATA). That's OK, for 229$ +parts I don't expect this machine to be a screamer but 5.70 MB/sec on a SATA? I can't barely run linux. In fact the numbers are so absolutely rotten that I can't believe it's not something obvious that I am just missing.
Anybody have any quick fixes for me? |
