|
|
When installing using both the 2006.1 live cd and 2006.1 live DVD, an error appears. The partitions are created and the files copied over. I chose to use GRP to speed up the install with the DVD install. After the portage is uncompressed and copied over, an error appears stating that the root password I chose could not be set. The error said to submit a bug report including the install.log from /var/log and the xml file created. however I could find no way to attach the files to the report and the report would have been huge if i copied and pasted the contents of the 2 files in it. So I submitted the bug without the files attached.
I tried both the console and graphical install and got the same error both times. |

Ya, I read the sticky. But my problem seems different than the one listed there. With the original poster, his set the password, and then the install hung. Mine seems to error out when trying to set the root password.
I think I might download the minimal install cd and see if I can get it to work. With the 2006.0 cd's, I had no internet connectivity at all. At least I can access the net with 2006.1 |

Anyone found something about it? |

I reported this error on Sept. 1st and was basically told to do it the "manual way". Not very helpful, or even informative. If they want folks to use the installer, they should make sure it works before releasing it. Poor quality control. _________________ Somewhere, just out of sight, the Penguins are gathering! |

Ya, I just re-installed with the minimal disk and had no trouble. It sure would be nice if it didn't take so bloody long to install it this way, but at least it works.
I had different problems with the graphical installer each time. I did get the failure to set root password error twice and problems setting up the partitions on one occasion. After the last dvd install failed, I found that the graphical installer had deleted my windows 2000 pro partition as well. I was using a spare hard drive though so it wasn't any loss. It appears people do have problems with the graphical installer deleting partitions. |
