All you did was change 2006.0 profile to 2006.1 profile? _________________ Just because I have nothing to say is no reason why you shouldn't listen. |

Maybe you have OSS compiled in your kernel while installed the external ALSA kernel. Try setting the kde sound deamon to OSS and try again. What version do you use, the "in kernel one" or seperate? Sounds like a kernel/driver mismatch, look at the ALSA guide:

this is a new install from stage3-i686-2006.1
i have alsa built in the kernel.
no module.
alsasound loads default ok
new thing i noticed in this new installation is that kde does not emerge arts unlike the previous kde in 2005.3 and 2006.0 profiles.
except for this sound in mplayer etc all other things work ok
followed the same install gentoo hand book x86
i haave p4 845 mother board with audio built in.
i dont get any idea why this sound will not start working. _________________ reach out a little bit more to catch it (DON'T BELIEVE the advocate part under my user name) |

Has the name changed, is a typo, or you tried alsaconfig instead than alsaconf?
Try to enter the kernel alsa setup and choose to compile your soundcard driver (should be the intel one)
as a module (then you'll need to modprobe at startup or install hotplug/coldplug if you haven't) _________________ Every day a new distro comes to birth. Every day a distro "eats" another.

yes it is typo .
alsaconf looks for sound cards and finds nothing.
its same result in my other 2006.0 install also. but the sound works ok.
the udev has the hotplug arrangement and i have not seperately emerged hotplug or coldplug in recent times.
i have problem of sound in mplayer xmms vlc kde sounds.
as mentioned i get sound from flash and ymessenger.
now i see aplay xxx.wav also gives sound ok.
this time kde did not start installing arts as usual. this may be change in this new profile
i am now trying to emerge these players after swiching to 2006.1/desktop.
i will post the results.
i hope i dont have to re emerge everything _________________ reach out a little bit more to catch it (DON'T BELIEVE the advocate part under my user name) |

Set arts and alsa in your use flags and (p=to see what wil happen N is for the new use flags) or get rid of the in build kernel alsa and emerge the alsa-driver as in the wiki. You can set your players to use alsa or oss (flash plays oss sounds that's working) in stead of arts.
Or you might emerge kdemultimedia to get arts... _________________ 'nkee? |
