sys-apps/util-linux-2.12r-r2 might be outdated, however ...

I am really wondering why ddate is contained in that package, isn't it more fun than seriousness?

Code:
$ ddate
Today is Boomtime, the 28th day of Bureaucracy in the YOLD 3172

Whatever it means, I think it has nothing to with a system utility.

Because it's included in the upstream package. If you're particularly concerned about the ~10K that the file takes up on your hard drive, perhaps you should take it up with the upstream maintainers.

ddate is included in util-linux, because Linux is part of the Operation Mindf*ck. The Discordian battle against the Illuminati is neither funny nor serious at all.
