Help setting up internet

Hello all. I am a linux newbie. I am having serious trouble with my internet. I somehow have to switch from lo to eth0. I can use the interent when I boot from the cd, but when I run from the harddrive I get no net activity. I think I need to just change the network device from lo to eth0 but I may be wrong. Please help me I have looked everywhere and read everything that I can find. I get the following from both the cd and from the harddrive.

Did you try net-setup as suggested in the handbook?
