I am setting up a mythtv box on gentoo and have it mostly up and running but I am having a hard time with my remote control. I have a MCE remote and have it working with the mceusb2 driver and LIRC. If I use irw I can see all the buttons I press being reported correctly on my screen but if I try and use irxevent to control mythtv or any other application nothing happens. It is almost as if X does not react to any commands from irxevent. I have also tried to use the lirc option built into mythtv and mplayer but it also does not work. I am using the default lircrc file included with mythtv and have also tried several I have found on the net but it doesn't do anything. I have not included any conf files because they do not seem relevant, LIRC works as it should but it does not seem to be working with X. Do I have to enable any special input devices in X for this to work? I have only included mouse, evdev and keyboard. I have tried kde, fluxbox and fvwm2. If I run irxevent from a console should it be displaying output about button presses the way that irw does? Currently it does not display anything at all. When I start irxevent the following line appears in my lircd log file:

Code:
lircd-0.8.0[10689]: accepted new client on /dev/lircd

but other than that, nothing works :(

Any ideas what I am missing here?

Thanks,
marty

If you are still without working remote I can probably help. Just reply here.
