|

I have noticed that pci proxying has been implemented in MOL. Does this mean that we will able to see things like the SMS and the internal modem working through this? This would be a really amazing thing! I hate having to reboot to mac just to get connected on dial up. It's sad. Thank you! _________________ Anyone who is not confused by quantum theory does not truly understand it.

PCI Proxying has been around for a long time actually, we used it to reverse engineer the bcm43xx chipset. You most likely won't get to use the modem through MOL simply because the modem is on the i2c bus which already has a linux driver. PCI Proxying really only works for devices which can be put into a PIO mode (no DMA!) and are visible on the PCI bus.
As for the SMS, there already are open source drivers for it. Hopefully it will be merged during the 2.6.19 series. :) _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |

Thank you for your speedy reply. Sad to hear about the modem. I can cope. You now have me extremely excited about the SMS on linux. I'm going to further investigate this... _________________ Anyone who is not confused by quantum theory does not truly understand it. |

I'm not sure now? :) I'm pretty sure that all of the new modems are either on the I2s bus with the sound card, or are USB devices (older iBooks and Powerbooks), but I've never seen it in the lspci before. It's also not listed in the lspci listing for on your site there, I'm not sure why it's appearing now.
Perhaps try: lspci -vt
This should show a list of PCI devices and show how they are connected. This might shed some light on it. :) _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |
