I cleaned it out for you a little bit and made a few changes. I don't know if it will work but you could try. :wink:
BTW, which graphics card do you use and did you specify it in your /etc/make.conf? And please post the output of...
Code:
emerge -pv xorg-server

Code:

Load "dbe" # Double buffer extension
SubSection "extmod"
Option "omit xfree86-dga" # don't initialise the DGA extension
EndSubSection
Load "freetype"

Update Glibc.

It fixed it for me yesterday. I was having the exact same problem

I spent quite a few days searching for answers online, even had a thread here, but nobody seemed to be able to help. In the end I did a GDB on X and saw it was crashing in libc.so.6 actually, which is glibc, so I decided to update my old glibc 2.3.3 to 2.3.6-r4 (2.4 is nptlonly and I'm not sure all my packages are nptlonly and didn't want to spend more time compiling). After more than an hour of compilation for glibc, it was done and I did a emerge -C nvidia-drivers && emerge nvidia-drivers afer that, everything worked like a charm.

btw sorry adinu and loki, i didnt see your messages, my glibc updated already while emerge -u world to 2.4, but ill try again to see if it makes any difference. I dont have a graphics card, im using a really old video card that has always worked with vesa as the driver

heres the ouput of emerge -pv xorg-server

In /etc/make.conf write:
Quote:
INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse"
VIDEO_CARDS="vesa"

and then rebuild your xorg.
