Hi all. I dealt some serious damage to my filesystem a few weeks ago after misusing Suspend2. This was all outlined here.
I was uncertain of what the ramifications of this error would be. I've been using the computer every day since then, for several hours every day, and it has seemed to behave just fine, as any normal, happy gentoo install should. This afternoon, however, all of my net-prefixed init scripts suddenly stopped working! The error is as follows:

Code:

#/etc/init.d/net.wlan0 start
*Starting
find: /lib/rcscripts/net.modules.d/: No such file or directory
*     no interface module has been loaded

ls revealed that this was correct: net.modules.d was missing.
My question is, does this fit the profile of damage to the filesystem? If that is so, and my system is destabilizing, what is the best course of action? Is there any way to go other than to reinstall gentoo?
If anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

-Jake

It does, though when the damage occurred is potentially of concern. If the damage from the experimentation with Suspend2 was fixed properly, this would indicate a distinct event.

Best is highly subject to conditions. I suggest fsck be run on the filesystem in question and that attempts be made to determine the possibility of the directory having been unlinked, deliberately, unintentionally or maliciously.

To answer that question properly would require information not provided in the quoted post, which is basically an indication of what the underlying problem is and how widespread it is. To give a general answer, if it is a hardware problem a replacement drive could be in order, if it is a minor software problem it can be fixed without reinstallation, if it is a major software problem it could be significantly simpler to reinstall.
