I did "emerge --oneshot arts". I removed the "-arts" from the USE in /etc/make.conf
Here is the command I issued to try and compile kde/kmultimedia:
emerge --deep --newuse -u kde
Here is the error message:

Different issue, however this one is a blocker - C++ ABI linking issue. See here for some possible solutions: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-485318.html _________________ Military Commissions Act of 2006: http://tinyurl.com/jrcto

I ran into the same issue harlanb had after the upgrade to gcc 4.1.1. I solved it by re-emerging taglib. An emerge -e world should have also worked. |

re-emerging taglib did it. thanks!!!
emerge -e world did not fix it, curiously enough.
but I am FINALLY past my problem child.
Thanks!!!!
