gnome configfiles

i know this is very off the topic, feel free to move me to the off topic location. i just thought maybe it fits here a bit

i just wonder if any of you guys ever used gnome on a solaris sunray.
at the university we got such an environment and i could not find the appropriate configuration files for gnome. i like to put theme somewhere
in my home directory (most likely ~/.gnome) so that i have write access to them and can configure my environment. everytime i do a change (e.g. change the default browser), it doesnt have any effect.
