Hello there,
I am using the Frenzy-ext-1.0 LiveCD (FreeBSD) to be able to install Gentoo/FreeBSD but I simply can not create the necessary partitions within slice ad0s3.
I left a 10G gap after my primary WinXP partition and according to BSD people this should then be called ad0s2 but it simply becomes ad0s3. FreeBSD needs to reside within a primary partition (called slice) and I see no reason why this slice shouldn't be adequate to accommodate FreeBSD.
Gentoo fdisk says:
Quote: |
The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 620160.
There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,
and could in certain setups cause problems with:
1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs
(e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)

I once was able to create partitions such as ad0s3a but then the mount field says <none>. If I try to change this to "/" using the M option and then quit it says: can not write partition data to disk ad0. What is wrong? The slice is not mounted.
Any ideas?
