PC-to-PC direct connection?

I'd like to connect 2 PCs (both have NIC card) directly with a cable and transfer data between the two. Does anyone know how to set this up?

You need a crossover cable. Looks the same as a normal network cable but two pair are reversed on one of the ends.

Once you have that just configure the two computers to have IPs on the same subnet and you'll be golden.
