Let me preface this by saying the problem is happening on an ubuntu system... but their forum is confusing and I couldn't find the right place to ask this question, so I came back home where I was more comfortable.

I'm having problems with mozilla-thunderbird. I installed it as one typically would. it ran fine for several days/weeks and then stopped. When I try to run it, i get a pop-up:
Quote:
Mozilla-Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Mozilla-Thunderbird process, or restart your system.

$ ps -aux | grep underbird
$

I found some recomendations saying I should delete all the .parentlock files in appropriate home directories. I did, still no dice.

finally, I decided to delete the entire .mozilla-thunderbird directory (for every user), uninstall thunderbird, reboot, and re-install.... same error.

what am I missing?

"lsof | grep underbird" lists all files which thunderbird has open. Maybe you can find the lock file you search for. Otherwise make a find / -name .parentlock to find out where the file lies.

don't know what changed, but it works now. :?

there weren't any thunderbird processes, but i never did the lsof before it started working.

There weren't any .parentlock files on the entire system. anyway, thanks for your suggestions.
