i start with the facts:
client
eth0: negotiated 100baseTx-FD, link ok
product info: TDK 78Q2120 rev 10
basic mode: autonegotiation enabled
basic status: autonegotiation complete, link ok
capabilities: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD
advertising: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD
link partner: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD flow-control
server (eth0: WAN, eth1: LAN)
eth0: negotiated 100baseTx-FD, link ok
product info: vendor 00:00:00, model 0 rev 0
basic mode: autonegotiation enabled
basic status: autonegotiation complete, link ok
capabilities: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD
advertising: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD
link partner: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD flow-control
eth1: negotiated 100baseTx-FD, link ok
product info: vendor 00:00:00, model 0 rev 0
basic mode: autonegotiation enabled
basic status: autonegotiation complete, link ok
capabilities: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD
advertising: 100baseTx-FD 10baseT-FD
link partner: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD flow-control
it doesn't matter if i download from eth0 or eth1 of the server. the speed is around 1.5 MB/s.
what could be the reason? |

With what you tried to download? What I mean that in some occasions I get VERY crappy transfer speeds with Konqueror, but if I try from exactly same computer to exactly same computer from shell with scp or any other tool, it will be fast. _________________ Yes, I'm the man. have you looked on top while copying? to see if you see extreamly high output on SI/HI for example?
You could also cat /proc/interrupts to see if ERR is high while copying. And check dmesg after copying to see if anything looks off there. |

=== addition 2 ===
it is not the server but the client. i just managed to download over http on win2k at 4.5 MB/s.

check the duplex setting on the switch, make sure it is on for the ports you are trying to use, duplex mismatches can cause this kind of issue. |

Have you tried to turn auto-negotiation off and force the connection to be 100-FD? ethtool -s eth0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off should do the trick, or mii-tool -F 100baseTx-FD, for that matter. _________________ Yes, I'm the man. instead of
eth0: negotiated 100baseTx-FD, link ok
it says
eth0: 100 Mbit, full duplex, link ok
now, but no change in speed, not even when ich change cable which was able to handle 100 Mbit. |
