How?
I (of course) compiled in support for software suspend, but now what?
I downloaded the suspend.sh script and did ./suspend.sh --install. It installed a script called hibernate in my /sbin, which yells "/proc/sys/kernel/swsusp: No such file or directory" at me.
How did you make it work?

Good question, as I asked the same question in both of the following threads:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=45575&highlight=swsusp

It seems /proc/sys/kernel/swsusp used to be the controller in which you could send signals to, instructing the computer to shut down, but that location no longer exists because the newer kernels are moving things around. The swsusp scripts haven't been updated for some reason, and on the mailing list, I remember reading a developer tell someone "wait for the new patch" for the newer kernels, which was awhile ago.
So, if anyone creatively got it working, please inform us, but I think that it won't work on any newer kernels (2.5.x) until the swsusp scripts are reworked... _________________ -Phil Crosby |

Hopefully, it would be a feature of the 2.6 kernel... I would certainly hope so, as it would make my life a lot easier.
