I have Gentoo installed on my external USB hard drive, and my laptop support booting off of USB. I need to know what I need to configure and how to configure it to have Grub boot gentoo off of the USB hard drive. thanks all |

Try taking a look at:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/liveusb.xml
it has some info on setting up the master boot record and bootloader. Can't guarantee as I've never tried but.. worth a shot there. |

unfortunatly that didn't work. I need some instructions that can deal with gentoo, already installed on the external hard drive, but it needs to be slightly modified to allow booting from the ext HD. One thing I didn't understand was the boot loader config. when the doc calls for sed, they don't explain what the "s:" is. My computer didn't like that so it just quit. I need the delay for a bootloader that is already installed.
This is my HD setup:
sda1 Windows XP extra space
sda2 /boot
sda3 swap
sda4 /
I'm not sure how much this helps, but somethings better than nothing. If anyone needs more info, let me know. I'd like to get this up ASAP.
Thanks all |
