I just reinstalled my system with gentoo 1.4 rc4
I notice on bootup or when starting or stopping a service from /etc/init.d an error.
/sbin/runscript.sh: line 36: 2:: command not found

I am not much of a programmer and just eyeballing the script doesnt show up anything glaring to me. line 36 looks like this.

# (1) Source /etc/conf.d/basic to get common configuration.

the next line is
# (2) Source /etc/conf.d/${myservice} to get initscript-specific

these lines appear commented out to me.
anyone have an idea of what is happeniing?

services are starting and stopping ok so it is just cosmetic but bothersome to try to watch your boot with the error coming up so often.

I had this same problem when installing with r3. Unfortunetly I could not find a fix, and resorted to using an r2 disk, instead.

I had this problem too. It was because I read something wrong and made a stupid mistake. /etc/rc.conf says this:

Code:
# Set protocols to the protocols that you plan to use.  Gentoo Linux will only
# enable module auto-loading for these protocols, eliminating annoying module
# not found errors.
# Num   Protocol
# 1:    Unix
# 2:    IPv4
# 3:    Amateur Radio AX.25
# 4:    IPX
# 5:    DDP / appletalk
# 6:    Amateur Radio NET/ROM
# 9:    X.25
# 10:   IPv6
# 11:   ROSE / Amateur Radio X.25 PLP
# 19:   Acorn Econet

So reading that I uncommented several of those thinking thats how you enable them. Wrong. It created the errors you mentioned on every single service. Commenting those lines again fixed it. ;) I dunno if you did this too, or if I was the only stupid person, but either way it fixed the problem. :P

Yeah I did the same stupid thing. Uncommented the line concerning ivp4.
My excuse is it was 3.30 am when I was doing this. err yeah thats gotta be it. :-) thanks for helping me find it. I would have never thought of looking in the rc.conf file.
