I know fluxbox is only a wm, and so doesnt have a panel and icons, but how do I get all the 3rdparty features I see in screenshots?
like a panel w/ common programs (icons), and maybe some other stuff? |

idesk will give you some icons on the desktop
http://linuxhelp.hn.org/idesk.php
gkrellm2 will give you a nice little system monitor
http://www.gkrellm.net/
there are other programs that accomplish pretty much the same thing, however those are two common ones that arent too difficult to set up. idesk has pretty good documentation, and gkrellm2 is fairly self-explanatory.
another helpful program is bsetbg (others also exist) that will set your background for you
next you'll need to edit your /home/*username*/.xinitrc file so that when you type startx (assuming you're not using a graphical login manager) flux and all of your desktop helper programs load automatically...mine looks like this:
Quote: |
exec fluxbox
exec bsetbg -f ~/gentoo1024x768.jpg &
exec /usr/kde/3.1/bin/korganizer &
exec gaim &
exec gkrellm2 &
exec idesk

feel free to ask for any other questions |

i don't exactly know which are you talking specifically, but the panels and icon i believe can be achieved with Rox-Filler or Idesk
some addons, you can get DockApps,
and for status for your cpu,etc you can get Gkrellm.
that should get you started _________________

Check www.fluxbox.org , there's a couple of links to 3rd-party software for Fluxbox, including a dockbar and icons for the desktop. |

you have to start up rox with some special option.
adding:
rox --bottom=mypanel &
to your .xinitrc before starting fluxbox should do the trick. |
