I have installed gentoo 2006.1 and tried to use my Lucent WinModem... I did "emerge ltmodem" (8.31_alpha10-r2, but it also used the ltmodem-2.6-alk-8 version to install the driver) and it work's fine... But, when I try to dialout with wvdial I get this error (and no noise from modem):

hawking ~ # wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.56
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATX3
ATX3
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Sending: ATDT30359994
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT30359994
NO CARRIER
--> No Carrier! Trying again.
--> Sending: ATDT30359994
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT30359994
NO CARRIER
...

My /etc/wvidal.conf

[Dialer Defaults]
Init3 = ATM1L1
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Modem Type = Analog Modem
Phone = 30358300
ISDN = 0
Username = pop
Init1 = ATX3
Password = pop
Modem = /dev/modem
Baud = 57600

And here is the output of 'wvdialconf':

hawking ~ # wvdialconf
Editing `/etc/wvdial.conf'.

I'm using kernel 2.6.17-gentoo-r5 (with SMP support already disabled)
Any ideas?
