...which wouldn't be that bad, except it won't compile. I have the newest version (2.2.5), but the above emerge wants to pull in an old one, too. I've removed all gkrellm from my system and the world file, and looked for dependencies (there are none), but no matter what I do, emerge world wants to pull in gkrellm 1.2.13.

BTW - The 1.2.13 compile error is
Code:
chart.c: In function ‘set_auto_grid_resolution’:
chart.c:473: error: invalid storage class for function ‘set_grid_resolution_spin_button’
chart.c:503: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘set_grid_resolution_spin_button’
chart.c: At top level:
chart.c:1677: warning: conflicting types for ‘set_grid_resolution_spin_button’
chart.c:1677: error: static declaration of ‘set_grid_resolution_spin_button’ follows non-static declaration
chart.c:503: error: previous implicit declaration of ‘set_grid_resolution_spin_button’ was here

First of all do you have an up2date portage? Did you emerge --sync?
and if you have check weather you have anything in /etc/portage about gkrellm.
If the problem persists you could always use
Code:
 emerge -av =app-admin/gkrellm-2.2.5
which would explicitly emerge gkrellm 2.2.5

I saw a question on this just the other day. I believe that there was an old gkrellm plugin installed that required the 1.x version. Do an "emerge -uDNpvt gkrellm" to see what is trying to pull it in.

Explicitly emerging gkrellm 2.2.5 is not the issue. Emerge wants to compile 1.2.13 even after unmerging 2.2.5. I want gkrellm-1.2.13 to go away.

I saw the same message. I don't have the mentioned plugin (gkrellm-bfm) installed.

'emerge -uDNpvt gkrellm returns "total size of downloads: 0". I've already tried 'equery depends gkrellm' with no results.

Sorry, that should have been: emerge -uDNpvt world
since it is when you try to update world that you see the problem.

I found the problem - I had some X11 gkrell monitor application in my world file that wasn't actually installed. Once removed from the world file 'emerge world' stopped trying to load gkrell 1.2.13.
