|
|
Hiho @all!
I am confused :-/ I was trying to set up ALSA to work with my CMEDIA CM8737 soundcard but it doesn't function - neither with alsa compiled into the kernel as modules (and also enabling the CMEDIA drivers as module) nor with alsa-drivers emerged seperately. I always get the same error:
Code: |
SpaceStation ~ # /etc/init.d/alsasound start
* Loading ALSA modules ...
* Loading: snd-card-0 ... [ ok ]
* Loading: snd-seq-oss ... [ ok ]
* Loading: snd-pcm-oss ... [ ok ]
* ERROR: Failed to load necessary drivers [ ok ]
* Restoring Mixer Levels ...
* No mixer config in /etc/asound.state, you have to unmute your card! [ ok ]
|
My /etc/modules.d/alsa looks like this:
Code: |
# Alsa 0.9.X kernel modules' configuration file.
# $Header: /var/cvsroot/gentoo-x86/media-sound/alsa-utils/files/alsa-modules.conf-rc,v 1.5 2006/06/13 10:18:25 uberlord Exp $
# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore

## IMPORTANT:
## You need to customise this section for your specific sound card(s)
## and then run `modules-update' command.
## Read alsa-driver's INSTALL file in /usr/share/doc for more info.

EDIT: In addition, alsaconf fails saying that there is no soundcard available and in /proc/asound/cards there's no soundcard too...
EDIT2: Here's an extract from dmesg:
Code: |
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:04:06.0[?]: no GSI
ALSA /var/tmp/portage/alsa-driver-1.0.12/work/alsa-driver-1.0.12/pci/../alsa-kernel/pci/cmipci.c:2866: unable to grab IRQ 255
C-Media PCI: probe of 0000:04:06.0 failed with error -16

I am using Kernel gentoo-sources 2.6.17-r8. (If you need any other information just ask.)
Do you know what i am doing wrong? How to get that ALSA work with my soundcard?
Thanks for your help

ALSA and also your issue is very popular theme here. As there can be many reasons why you have problem as you described I would suggest you to read
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml and some threads mainly in "Multimedia forum". I believe that you will gather some more informations. If your problem persists let us know. |

Thanks for your answer!
I have been following the instructions in that Gentoo ALSA guide when I tried to set up my soundcard. The problem seems to be, that ALSA does not really detect my soundcard. I don't know how to interprete that line in dmesg, but I don't think that it is unrelevant:
Code: | ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:04:06.0[?]: no GSI |
This seems to cause the problem, but I don't know what this message does mean nor how to fix it.
It would be great if someone could help me understanding this...
Thank you

ACPI is power management I think, and is sometimes related because ACPI screws up hardware handling often. Being that I have a similar alsa issue as you, I'll tell you that I have no power management features enabled in-kernel, so it's not that. _________________ AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux 2x2.2 ghz

Hmm... As I read, ACPI also handles that thing with IRQs, and that's the next error coming up in dmesg (unable to grab ICQ 255) which is beeing followed by a c-media pci probe error.
So I would have said, that this is because of something with ACPI...
Could you locate the problem, xevix? |
