My kernel is gentoo-sources-2.6.17-r4, DVDrom LG HL-STDVD-RAM GSA. I compiled my kernel based on gentoo installation docs and handbook.
I posted here because I guess this is something related with gentoo amd64. I boot my system from livecd of another distribution and i not had any error like those. Another strange thing, for cd simple cd media there's no error.
Someone can help me understand what's happen. |

Looks like a kernel issue to me. What kernel version did the DVD-ROM work properly with? _________________ Petition for Better 64-bit ATI Drivers - Sign Here

Works for a debian - kernel 2.6.10 but it's a 32bits kernel.
So can it's be related with kernel config and not the fact that i compile for 64bits? |

Hey...
I guess this error is caused by ksCD. I installed kde-meta on my gentoo and fluxbox with USE="-kde" too. My kde-meta has the flag hal active.
So, when i do my login on kde and insert a DVD disc on dvd drive, hald works and try to mount a disc but the messages:
Quote: | ATAPI device hda:
error: Not ready -- (Sense Key=0x02)
Incompatible medium installed -- (asc=0x30, ascq=0x00)
The failed "Read subchannel" packet command was:
"42 02 40 01 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 00 00 00"
VFS: busy inodes on changed media
attempt to access beyound and of device
hda: rw=0, want=8388608, limit=8388604
Buffer I/O error on device media hda, logical block 2097151

Start and no stop anymore.
So.. I umount the disc and stop X (/etc/init.d/xdm restart) and login on fluxbox. I mount a dvd disc and no error messages are logged.
Well. I try this in text mode whit X windows stoped and works too, works for fluxbox but not on KDE. |
