Hi

I have just installed a new machine off the 2006.1 amd64 live dvd. It is an Intel Core2 Duo system.

My CPU seems to run both cores at half speed, though. I have tried both gentoo-sources-2.6.17-r8 and vanilla-sources-2.6.17.13

Could you clarify this statement? A quick glance at what you've posted doesn't lead me to believe any settings are wrong, but why do both cores "seem to run at half speed?"

Also, try to see at what temp your cpu is. Maybe it is getting too hot.

Each core's MHz is too low as follows:

The temps are fine - running around 45 or so, when checking in the bios immediately after doing cpu intensive compiles

Try to change the cpufreq with programs like sys-power/cpufrequtils in the portage. cpufreq support in the kernel is necessary for doing this.

Try this (and change 2GHz to your freq):

cpufreq-set -c 0 -f 2GHz
cpufreq-set -c 1 -f 2GHz
cpufreq-info


There are two cpufreqset-commands for the each cpu, you have to try if they are necessary (I have a dual-core 1 laptop and at my system they are)

It looks like my acpi data in the motherboard is wrong and/or the CPU is not supported by the speedstep kernel code.

I can't use the speedstep_centrino module, and when I use the acpi-cpufreq module, my CPUs are slowed down to 700MHz maximum.

There are two cpufreqset-commands for the each cpu, you have to try if they are necessary (I have a dual-core 1 laptop and at my system they are)

Error setting new values. Common errors:
- Do you have proper administration rights? (super-user?)
- Is the governor you requested available and modprobed?
- Trying to set an invalid policy?
- Trying to set a specific frequency, but userspace governor is not available,
   for example because of hardware which cannot be set to a specific frequency
   or because the userspace governor isn't loaded?
