As usual i got everything working as well as possible before i switched off my computer, only to find that when i turned it on again KDE woudlnt start. Ive tried 2-3 different ways of starting it as my day-to-day user and as root. In every case it appears to reach "Initializing System Services" on the splash screen then it dies. Ive tried remerging kdelibs kdnssd ksmserver kdeinit, with no success.

As a user startkde gives:
Code:

localhost bruce $ ./startkde
xset:  bad font path element (#118), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
    Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax
startkde: Starting up...
kbuildsycoca running...
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /usr/kde/3.5/lib64/kde3/kcm_kdnssd.so: undefined symbol: init_kdnssd
ksmserver: Unexpected argument 'compiz-decorator'.
ksmserver: Use --help to get a list of available command line options.
KWrited - Listening on Device /dev/pts/2
startkde: Shutting down...
klauncher: Exiting on signal 1
startkde: Running shutdown scripts...
startkde: Done.

As Root startkde gives:
Code:

localhost bin # ./startkde
xset:  bad font path element (#118), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
    Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax

These two errors seem to stand out but i cant find a solution to either...
