When I was running SuSE Linux, I used to run nfsd with which I had full (rw) access to my home directory from a Windows 98 client running the NFSAxe NFS client.

I have had cause to boot my laptop into Windows (until the day that CodeWarrior and AVR Studio are ported to Linux) and find that, under Gentoo, things don't seem to be working quite right. It appears that my connection from the Windows client is coming in as 'nobody'.

I can't find any reference to this in the NFS FAQ (nfs.sourceforge.net), but looking through my old Crab Book - yes, one of those old paper things - (TCP/IP Network Administration / OReilly), I find this:
Quote:
The PC NFS Authentication and Print Server (pcnfsd) is needed to support non-UNIX clients on an NFS network.

Doing 'eix -s pcnfsd' finds no results; I can't believe that the Gentoo distribution is missing so fundamental part of NFS functionality, so where is it? Is it now called something else?
