Hi.
As it is highly recommended to replace nvidia propietary drivers with nvidia-legacy-drivers, i've done so. But since that I can't start up X system any more. The screen is black and I have to manually restart pc to get at least to the console. I tried to change driver from nvidia to nv, but I've got notebook with widescreen and nv driver can't handle 1280x800 resolution, so now I have ugly 1024x768.

asus a6t, nvidia go7600

thnx

You're looking for nvidia-drivers. Its the new name for what was nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx. This is still the proprietary driver. AFAIK nvidia-legacy-drivers is also proprietary, but it is meant for older video cards. Pretty sure nvidia go7600 isnt that old :)

I'm not sure whether nvidia-legacy-drivers will be automatically unmerge'd so
Code:
emerge -Ca x11-drivers/nvidia-legacy-drivers
emerge -av x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers
eselect opengl select nvidia
and you should be using the nvidia driver which suits your card.

If you're not that familiar with emerge: "emerge -Ca" unmerges a package but asks (-a) first; "emerge -av" emerges one or more packages, displays their USE flags and asks for confirmation.
