Does anyone here run skype with aoss? (i do this so i can run skype then start amarok or something and listen to music and use other apps with sound) When I call someone and talk for about 15-20 minutes it just goes mute, i cant hear anyone or talk to anyone. Does anyone know what is causing this? Also i cannot use 1.3 because the output is very choppy, any help here also seeing as how were on that subject. I am open to any comments or suggestions

are you using arts? For some reason when I had arts enabled, skype would become super slow, sound choppy, etc.

I am not using arts..It even says when i run aoss skype

No running artsd or esd found

My package.use reads

Quote:
##skype##
net-im/skype -arts

Quote:
richard@gentbox ~ $ sudo emerge -av skype

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] net-im/skype-1.2.0.18 USE="esd -arts -static" 0 kB

Total size of downloads: 0 kB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

It runs fine, but only for about a good half an hour then It just goes mute and I have to call that person back which becomes very annoying If im in a chat with lots of people and the leader has to call me back or if im playing a game and micing with people etc..

I dont know if its fixed yet but Ive been chatting for a good 2 hours now. I just emerged esound and started that. For now its working :D Except for listening to music and other sound apps at the same time, skype goes mute a few after you use that app. I still have that to fix. Has anyone else experienced this, im open for anything.

I'm, using the latest skype available on portage (1.3.0.37). The sound is quite ok and haven't experienced any dropped calls. But I have no sound server installed. If your sound card supports mixing you can use most of your apps configuring just alsa
(for amarok, just configure xine plugin and you can use amarok and skype at the same time)

Also, the only time I consistently experienced dropped calls in the past was related to my internet connection.

Im not dropping the calls.
They are going mute, nothing is getting muted ive checked alsamixer, my mic etc etc.
As well, I have tried the new skype 1.3 but the output is choppy on it, maybe you know how i could fix this?

Skype is not actually fixed, this is probably never been encountered before by anyone but me seeing as how i chat on skype for hours and hours. Skype is averaging about an hour now then just goes mute, if anyone has any comments or knows anything about this I'm all ears, otherwise Closed.

Well I used to have something similar but it didn't last that long. Mine usually went mute way earlier. I usually restarted alsa then.

I now use the new Skype and alsa instead of oss. Did you try alsa yet?

As you may have read above, i had tried the new Skype with Alsa support but had no luck seeing as how the output was very choppy.
