this is y first linux distrobution and I've been trying to teach my self the ins and outs for a cuple of weeks I've got most of my system working but when I try to play a dvd in totem I get an erro saying that my disk is using an unsupported file system. I've tried multiple disks an I've trie mounting it manually whith no change audio cds have no problem but haven't tried data cds yet. I installed whith a dvd so I now the drive works. Both optic drives ( cdrom & dvdrw) are set to type auto in fstab.is there ome aditinal support I need to install for dvds?

I find ogle much better for playing dvd

also make sure you have the cd - dvd file systems loaded in your kernel.

Video DVDs don't need mounting, btw.

In your kernel config make sure you have everything checked under File systems > CD-ROM/DVD Filesystems

If you want to mount a DVD video (to look at the files on it), your kernel needs UDF filesystem support.

If you just want to play the video, use Xine or Mplayer. As far as I know, Totem doesn't work with DVD videos.

thankyou adding the kernel modules allowed me to play dvd in totem but it was real grainy. xine played whith decent quality but I cant figure out how to put it in the multimedia menu in the aplications tab under gnome. is there a file to edit or am I stuck whith the gnome selected applications there
