Hi,

After installing gentoo on my two-day old Macbook, I got a kernel message on vc1 (and dmesg),
it reads:

MCE: The hardware reports a non fatal, correctable incident occurred on CPU 0.
Bank 3: 940000460001010a

Could this be because my CFLAGS are incorrect?

CFLAGS="-O2 -march=prescott -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe"

I'm a litle bit alarmed,
tia

[edit]I seem to have my kernel compiled for Pentium-M, is this correct?[/edit]

Machine checks are caused by memory/CPU failures (possibly due to the occasional stay comsic that hit the chip just right)

In this case, it was non-fatal (it was detected and corrected) - but getting one of these is never good news - especially after only 2 days. I think I've seen 3 of them, total, in a year on my system. THis could inicated a dud, or maybe it was just chance, or you need to move your nuclear reactor farther away from your computer....

Well, I shut the machine down this morning, and when I booted just now,
I found the same message in dmesg:

MCE: The hardware reports a non fatal, correctable incident occurred on CPU 0.
Bank 3: 940000460001010a

Don't know if i mentioned the other one, I got this one too last time:

MCE: The hardware reports a non fatal, correctable incident occurred on CPU 0.
Bank 3: 900000060020100e

Auch?
:?

No. This generally indicates that your hardware is bad or possibly there is a kernel bug (however this is not as likely than a hardware problem) or even less likely some type of interference (cosmic ray ...) has switched bits around in your memory cells.

I would suggest you run memtest86 for at least 24 hours and see if you get any errors.
