How do I get Joysticks fully functional under wine?

It is somehow difficult to find howtos or detailed instructions for getting things to work under wine...Until now I found out that one can soft link the joystick devices from under /dev/input to /dev and it should help.

I have now my second joystick working under wine in IL-2 Sturmovik but only for two axes. I understood that messing around with DirectInput in the registry would be the way. Ok this is where my ignorance shows.

I don't have this DirectInput in the registry - is it normal? Can I just add it and add also my joysticks below it - how do I do it? Can someone post a screenshot of the registry that has been configured for it?
