HI,
Okay I have mythtv at home running nicely, on there its has all my mp3s, videos etc.....
What i'm wanting to do is access all my mp3s on there i.e stream them to my lappy at work so I dont have to have duplicates kind of what mpd does but reverse , I know there is Icecast etc but I want to control what track I listen to
Anyone help

Icecast? I didn't think you could control which track you listened to on the remote machine? |

mpd-svn supports streaming to the icecast server so you can listen your music remotely and control it with mpd . Also I haven't had any crashing issues and such (even though its only svn I believe). Anyway worth a shot, I don't think it has maid it into stable yet, you may have to use the svn ebuild. |

Seems like a good idea but this will set music remotely playing on my TV while my wife is watching!?!?!? |

That I am not certain of, I can't remember if you can temporarily or all together disable the local playback of the file. The people in #mpd on freenode would probably know more. |

have you considered using USB drive? Load it up, plug it
in anywhere that can play music. take it to work, take it home.
connection is less brittle meaning more music more often.
Of course, you can't have it in two places at once, but can you?
Can Samba work in you situation to share the files. That's what I
do on my LAN. |
