I hope that someone can throw some light on this...
When I use ssh (with X forwarding) to connect to a machine we have that is running Documentum and then run one of the Documentum GUI tools, such as the InstallShield based installer (a java app I think), the window that appears on my Gentoo box is always empty.
By empty I mean that I get the outer frame and the window decorations but no widgets/menus etc. I have been able to reproduce this behaviour on a number of Gentoo machines with different video drivers. If I do the same thing using a Mandrake or Ubuntu machine the GUI works fine, all the widget are as they should be.
Could anyone suggest what might be wrong. I get no error messages from the app itself.
Many thanks

I was having the same issue and after searching the forums I found this which fixed my issue:

I've aliased ssh to use "ssh -XY" and now my Java apps are showing up correct. I'm not familar with this argument, the man page simply says it "Enables trusted X11 forwarding."
BTW, the remote system is not running Gentoo, so I did not follow the tutorial when setting it up. |
