Hi, theres a local band near where I live called inverness and I just bought thier cd. The problem is that for some reason abcde wont even touch thier cd. They provide mp3's on the cd but amarok claims thier unplayable. Also, every mp3 i try to rip through kcdripper or whatever it is that comes with kde is also unplayable in amarok. :?

Can you play it in an ordinary CD player?

I think you are describing a "data" cd. It has mp3 file's on it. It is not an "audio" cd. I think amarok plays audio cd's.

Can you mount the cd? If so, copy the files to a directory i.e. your home directory or something, then play it from there. Try xmms or amarok on the mp3's.

its the wierdest thing i've ever seen, whe I mount it on windows it plays fine and shows up as an audio cd, all the data foldiers are hidden. I can play it from the cd fine as well. But when mounted in tux there are data foldiers in there 2. One has each track as an mp3, one has the whole cd as mp3 wma and ogg, the next has a cddb entry for the cd and I cant remember what the fourth is. I've tried copying the mp3's straight off the cd but they wont play.

That sounds like the KDE audiocd ioslave. If so, those directories are virtual, not real. Copy the directory of your choice to your hard disk and KDE will rip and encode the music to the appropriate format on the fly.

ok this is fkn wierd. I can do that, however, if i attempt to rename the lame tags in amarok, or if I rename the names of the files in konqueror, they mp3 is no longer playable.. I'd very much like to tag and name the files correctly, whats goin on?

ok, I got the tagging to work but I had to open the unmodified mp3's in audacity and export them individually, and then it let me retag them correctly. Is the kde helper still buggy or is this something wierd with my version of lame :?

It works perfectly for me. I insert an audio CD, enter audiocd:/ in the konqueror location bar and drag and drop music to my drive. (KDE 3.5.4)
