I have a 1 gig usb flash drive that I never use, and I was considering installing Gentoo on it. However, I do not know if one gigabyte will be enough space.
First ?: How much space does a basic installation of Gentoo take?
I would most probably use a boot disk, as my computer's BIOSs do not support booting from USB.
Second ?: Could I put GRUB on a floppy disk and use it to boot from the USB drive?
Third ?: Would this be practical/useful/ect? And has anyone else ever done this before? _________________ Blasphemous Cow:

1) Try it out. If you can't fit everything you need then just format the USB Drive and forget about it.
2) No idea, you probably could though.
3) I'd love being able to boot gentoo anywhere

This howto treats usb flash disk as a normal harddisk and shows how to install a tiny Gentoo system on it.
Hope this helps. |
