emerging nvidia was never my favourite, I always liek to get them from nvidia they have a nice setup these days (yes ppl check it out gj nvidia). Keep in mind that u need to remerge/reinstall the nvidia when u compiled yourself a new kernel.

Another thing to remember :
When you compile a new kernel, you need to boot your new kernel. If you boot the old kernel, none of your modules will load properly.

just tried that.
unmerged the nvidia-kernel/nvidia-glx, reboot, recompiled new kernel (just to be sure), installed and rebooted that.
then downloading the nvidia setup bin, which can not find any suitable stuff online so wants to compile.
well, somewhen during compiling it errors cause it can not find the right kernel includes, also when i pass /usr/src/linux... as kernel-inlcude-path to the binary.

any ideas?

yeah, done that all the time (the first time i forgot to mount /boot before copying the new kernel over ... but that was easily fixed :)

Yes if u get the incorrect headers found by nividia's installer this will work:

Copy your active kernel config (.config in /usr/src/linux) to a save place .
Now do a
Code:
make mrproper
in ur kernel sources
Then put back your backuped .config
make menuconfig / exit / save
now make the kernel like ur used to (ea make dep && make clean bzImage modules modules_install)
Now boot the kernel, then run nvidia's setup......ur fixed
Code:
modprope nvidia
will load (1 warning is normal license balbla)
