I emerged enlightenment-0.16.8.1 because it's stable. I've had it before, and didn't have any problems. Here's the issue:

When I am in Pager-0, everything works as expected, i.e., when left click on desktop then click on an empty space on the desktop to remove the menu, it goes away. When in any other desktop besides pager-0, the image of anything I open is left on the desktop. This is really annoying. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with my graphics settings. I emerged the latest nvidia drivers. However, I don't really know what other graphics stuff I have. Once, before e started borking on me, I was reading about xgl and glx yadda yadda. I don't have xgl, at least I never emerged it. Can't even find an ebuild. Other than that, I think I emerged some other graphics stuff, but can't even remember anymore; I don't think they were all that detrimental anyway. It's been a while. So, based on this info, anyone think they can help? If anything else is needed, let me know and I will gladly offer.

Thanks,
Monica

If you have the CVS version now, do you have composite enabled (I don't know what the default setting is). That might mess things up if your card is not supported properly. You can check it via rightclick to the desktop under "Composite".

I do not have "Composite" enabled, but I do remember emerging something maybe related to "composite" or something like that. Any ideas?

Things like this can happen if the physical desktop has it's background set to NONE because there is just nothing to draw where the menu was, is it you case?

ps : If you don't want to mess with cvs go for 16.8.3 it has been released in august.

I had just a black desktop. So, that one isn't it. Also, when I try to emerge 8.3, I get the following error:
Code:

/usr/portage/x11-wm/enlightenment/enlightenment-0.16.8.3.ebuild: line 42: built_with_use: command not found

!!! ERROR: x11-wm/enlightenment-0.16.8.3 failed.
Call stack:
  ebuild.sh, line 1562:   Called dyn_setup
  ebuild.sh, line 665:   Called pkg_setup
  enlightenment-0.16.8.3.ebuild, line 42:   Called die

!!! emerge imlib2 with USE=X
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.

So, of course I re-emerged imlib2 with the X USE flag and still get the same error.

I just checked, I get the same issue with e16 (even though I have it merged right now). I guess it's a bug in the ebuild, which calls a function "build_with_use" that does not exist. You might wanna file a bug report in the bugzilla.

It is a bug in the ebuild (it lacks an inherit line).
From what I heard vapier is not around a lot at the moment, so I uploaded a patch to the bug in the bugzilla. The bug is https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149919.

Background NONE shows as a black background, if you selected the black case in pre-existing wallpapers (right clic menu) that's this one.

What imlib2 version are you using? e16-8.3 needs a recent one (> 1.2 IIRC but I'm far from my box so I can't swear)

As for 16.8.3 I'm surprised that there is a bug in the ebuild as I built it flawlessly 5 days ago.

Correct, as I did try with other bg's to test. Still the same problem. I will try that bugfix. I'm using the very very latest imlib2. .9999 i believe.

Needs to be used when emerging that latest enlightenment due to checksum errors. I will post results in a bit, emerging now

Did you do
Code:

ebuild /usr/portage/x11-wm/enlightenment/enlightenment-0.18.8.3.ebuild digest
before emerging? That should fix the checksums (cause it calculates them new).

Well, decided to remove my ~/.e16/ .

Solved everything, for an easy workaround. Still curious tho as to why it would behave that way. Too frustrated to read anything right now related to configs.

Thanks for all your help tho, I was able to emerge the .8.3 version. I like it.

e16 creates some kind of cache for the images and stuff (you can purge those somewhere in the "Maintenance" menu). Maybe one of those files (or more than one?) have grown corrupt?
