Okay this drive works great with CD-R, detects CD's and *some* dvd-roms but not all...
I thought it might need a touch by windows..so I threw it into my very old windows box...It saw the drive and was able to burn a DVD-R. (Even set the region code)
Then I brought it back to my gentoo box, booted up KDE..Popped a freash DVD-R into the drive and yippee! It appeared in the KDE system->media. Then I tried to burn it...It said it completed sucessfully..(in 3 sec?) but it didn't...I then tried to burn another DVD but it wouldn't detect it at all.. I've tried using other media...it just doesn't like dvds....
ANother thing I notice on boot up is that it stalls when trying to read the drive if there is a blank disk in there....it whirrs for a bout 5 minutes and finally continues to boot.
I've gone to the store and exchange for a new one...and this has the same problem too?
Any ideas?
