I do not know about that Xlib error but...
ATI Radeon 9200 is basicly very slow in opengl even if it's likely fastest card for Linux that have stable opengl support with open source drivers.
10fps averange for 1280x1024x32 with every graphic option full might be considered very fast for that card but...
it might be normal speed even with lowest graphic settings... I have ATI Radeon 9250 but I have not yeat play UT2004 with it.
Resolution:
choose one of next options
1. Do not play UT2004
2. play UT2004 with low FPS and with lowest settings possible.
3. buy nVidia GeForce 6600 GT or better if you do not mind about the closed source nvidia drivers.
4. buy faster card supported by R300 open source driver if you like open source drivers but...
those drivers opengl is considered as experimental and unstable and UT2004 might not run at all
with those drivers or there might be system freezes and some driver bugs. R300 drivers comes with
Xorg 7.1
Your system fits the minimum requirement for UT2004 but it might be still too slow. I do not consider 10fps as playable
at lest when compeating with more stillfull opponents. |

For higher fps try:
1. lower resolution like 1024x576 wide screen
2. 16 bit color depth
3. lowest texture and geometric details
Open source driver for R300 is very slow.
I ran demo four in Quake3 with following results:
61 fps - Radeon 9600 XT ( 9.6 GB/s )
85 fps - Radeon 9250/64 ( memory bandwidth 3.2 GB/s ) |
