After upgrading to the new modular X.org 7.0, I noticed that 12x24, one of the original "misc" fonts was no longer available. Other fixed-spacing fonts are part of media-fonts/font-font-misc. 12x24 is probably not very popular, but I've been using it to get near-fullscreen 80x30 or 80x31 rxvt's on a 1024x768 LCD.
Steps for restoring it manually:
- Obtain xc/fonts/bdf/misc/12x24.bdf from another machine (stilll under /usr/portage/distfiles, from an earlier Xorg or Xfree86 build?)
- cd /usr/share/fonts/misc
- bdftopcf < /path/to/12x24.bdf >12x24.pcf
- gzip 12x24.pcf
- mkfontdir
- xset fp rehash
Will this be wiped out on a re-emerge of font-misc-misc? I tried adding it to /usr/share/fonts/local instead, but xlsfonts wouldn't see it there, despite an xorg.conf FontPath line pointing to that directory. |

It won't be wiped out by reinstalling font-misc-misc. Since it doesn't belong to any installed package, portage will not remove it. And since no package provides it, it will never be overwritten. _________________
