|

At our office we run a Gentoo server that uses SAMBA and Netatalk to share a printer and some file shares with both OS X and Windows machines. There is no webmin / X server, none of that. Just a Gentoo base with Cups, SSH, Netatalk, SAMBA and deps. It works really well.
Now we have a scanner that I would like to connect to the server and share as well. Is this possible? I have Googled around a bit and looked here but I don't know where to start.
This is not something I have ever done before so I am completely clueless. The Macs are the most important machines to be sharing the scanner with. The Windows' machines are not so NB. _________________ AMD AthlonXP 2500+

Have a look at "man saned" and "man sane-net" for server setup. Then look at http://www.sane-project.org/sane-frontends.html for a frontend for MacOS and Win, as needed.
I once had a working setup with a scanner connected to my gentoo box and a client running on my room mates win box, but he moved out and I don't remember exactly how I did it. It should be possible, though. |
