Hi folks,
I'm setting up Gentoo on a P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe mobo. That's an nForce4 chipset and here's the manufactuer info: http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=1280&l1=3&l2=11&l3=227.
Naturally, I'd like some sound, but doing
lspci -v | grep audio
returns nothing. This is kind of disturbing, and makes me think that I might have configured something fundamentally wrong in the kernel. Regardless, I tried installing alsa both with modules and integrated into the kernel, and alsaconf fails either way. Everything else, including nvidia drivers for video, seems to be working just dandy.
Any ideas are much appreciated.

You can use lshw ( Hardware Lister ) for detection of your HW. If you do not have it run emerge lshw.
Could you send output of lspci? |

Regardless of what drivers you intsall: alsa; oss, or how you have configured your kernel,
The devices should show in lspci.
This leads me to think that it is disabled in the BIOS. |

not unless its PNP I have been having problems with one of my old cards.
Try enabling ISA PNP
then use ISAPNPTOOLS
See if you can find the right settings. |

You were right, it was NOT turned on in the BIOS! Why the retailer did that, I have no clue. But I guess it's not safe to assume anything.

Im having a similar problem
My onboard sound works fine , but I just put in a M-Audio 2496 and lspci nor lshw pick it up.
Ive gone through my BIOS about 5 time so far ... read the motherboard manual. Cleared CMOS, and the only thing i could find that was even relevant was and option to enable or disable clocks going to all PCI slots or only going to ones that are active(changing that didnt work either) .
The only thing I can think of is a BIOS flash .... but I dont even have a floppy drive ATM.
BTW the motherboard is an Socket 939 Abit AN8 Nforce4. |
