Hi,

I have a server without X on this machine is one specific program (a Java program) that needs X to administrated a program.
I manage this server from a windows XP machine with ssh?

Is there a way that i can start this program and see this on the windows XP without X ore something else on the server side ?

If your java program absolutely requires an X server, you're going to have to provide one. So check out Cygwin/X -- an X server you can run on MS-Windows. Between that and ssh port-forwarding you should be able to work something out.

Does the configure tool modify some files on the disk or does it communicate with the server to make changes?

thats not that difficult to set up either...

I used to run CygwinX on my work XP machine, and then literally, you SSH in to your home computer, startx, and away you go. I used to run firefox like that to avoid having to go through work's proxy server. heehee

CygwinX is available here:
http://x.cygwin.com/ (as above)

When you install it, choose a local mirror from the list, as you download the packages one by one whilst installing (make sure you install all the X and network packages you're gonna need!) typically, you're looking at 250+MB to do what you're after.

Don't you still need some basic X libs to use X11 forwarding? On the server that is....
