|
|
I haven't installed a Linux distribution other than RedHat and that doesn't really count.
But I followed the installation webpage closely. But after I choose to boot the kernel I named in the Grub loader, it goes:
Booting 'My Kernel'
kernel (hd0,)/boot/bzImage root=dev/hda3
[Linux=bzImage, setup=0x1400, size=0x16571e]
root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
then immediately reboots
I then started from scratch reparitioning again. But I end up with the same result. Do you guys have any ideas on where I might start to trouble shoot this?

What's up with the (hd0,)? Shouldn't that be (hd0,0) or something. Check your grub.conf for it. |

Yes, if your / is on /dev/hda1 you should write
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/bzImage root=/dev/hda3
in grub.conf |

I had this same problem when I was installing my first Gentoo on a Pentium I 200 MMX machine. When you do "make menuconfig", make sure that you have the right processor type selected. The default is Pentium III (correct me if I'm wrong), so if you're not using a PIII, then give this a try. Then you'll have to do the "make dep &&....." instructions again and copy the bzImage to /boot, like the instructions say. Hopefully that will clear things up. |
