This is the second time I have correctly made the right directories ie /mnt/gentoo etc, and everything installs fine until I leave chroot and umount...then it says no directories!!!What is up with that??

Can you be more specific? Once you unmount the hard drive, you obviously cannot any longer access their contents until remounted. Is this what you are referring to?
Or is this a boot/grub issue?

I think that must be it.I'm using lilo.I got lilo to boot up and everything is ok, but now my scsi modules won't load.Its always something lol.
