|
|
I recently configured my home router to allow SSH connection attempts to pass through its firewall and forward onto my machine. Initially, this worked perfectly for accessing the shell remotely and establishing secure tunnels for a few other network protocols.
As of a few days ago, however, I am now no longer able to connect from outside of my network. To my knowledge, I have not changed any settings on my router or to sshd. sshd seems to be running fine, and I can connect to it without issue from home, so I'm just a little stumped.
Anyone have any ideas about what might be going on? Thanks! |

/var/log/messages would be a good start to see if sshd is logging anything, you can change its verbosity in the sshd config files.
can you ssh to the machine from inside your network (if you have another free machine or if you put your computer in front of the router)?
what is the output when you try to connect? |

Wow, I'm almost too embarrassed to admit this, but I've figured out what was wrong. My IP address seems to have changed. Obviously, that should have been one of the first things to check for, but I didn't even think of it because it's never changed before. |

Haha. Has happened to me before as well.
You can probably check with your ISP about setting up a static ip or ddns (ip can change but you'll have a hostname.ip.com to use).
Most ISP's on dynamic ip will only change your ip if you close your connection (disconnect your router) so you should be ok. |
