|
|
I want to try beryl, but the one thing that is stopping me is the fact that my compiz setup is working perfect right now. I have also had issues with glproto 1.4.8 in the past (caused cube faces to be white) and beryl wants to upgrade glproto from 1.4.7 to 1.4.8.
The question is, if I cannot get beryl to work right, how do I go back to compiz?
Thanks for the help,

Well, I would say to only unmerge beryl and clean the dependencies... Just verify if you still have overlays or ebuilds (if you used some) to emerge Compiz back in case beryl fails.
However, Beryl with XOrg 7.1 + Nvidia BETA 9.xxxx works well here |

I just finished the upgrade to beryl (including glproto-1.4. and everything works great!
It seems slower, and glxgears shows 1500fps when i was getting 13000 with xgl and compiz... Also, glxinfo shows direct rendering, which I though should not be..
i am using the nvidia beta driver and using a standard x server instead of xgl, should i be using xgl?

I'm concerned about the speed difference, but no you should not use XGL and the NVidia drivers since XGL emulate what the NVidia drivers do natively (if I'm right ) |

Thanks for the reply. I had read that and the settings were already changed, but a few more did it.. glxgears just isnt a good benchmark. I was getting 900~fps with the compiz benchmark and im getting 1100~fps with the beryl benchmark.. if anything it seems to be running faster.
Thanks,
