Ok so.. I'm reallly new to Linux, but, I've been following the docs to install it on a x86 system, and I boot from the CD.. ethernet works.. no need to load modules for any of the hardware.. get to live cd, check the date, check internet connection all good. The problem is when I type
Code: | livecd root # fdisk /dev/hda |
all it's doing is showing me the CD-ROM.. the exact size of the CD in the CDROM, etc. Am I missing something here? I've read a couple guides, and followed the steps, but no good. As I said, it's showing the exact size of the data on the CD-ROM, tells me I can't write the partition, there's no partition set and when I create a new one I see:
Code: |
Command (m for help): n
Command action
e extended
p primary
p
Partition number (1-4): 1
First cylinder (1-1, default 1): 1

Any suggestions? I had Debian installed on it, and I can still boot to Debian, and my HDD shows up in the BIOS just fine. I've searched the forums and can't find anything like this. Am I totally missing something?
*EDIT* I don't know if it matters but I'm using the minimal CD 2006.1 */EDIT* _________________ - dizuane

If it's detecting your cdrom as /dev/hda, then your harddisk must be something different...maybe /dev/hdb or /dev/sda ?
See what is the output of
