Hello!

As i describe in the the thread about the nvidia-drivers i update my profile because i thought there was a "multilib"-Useflag issue that break the support a 32-Bit winex installation.

But the look and feel of "eix" say me that something go wrong!

This is my Link of /etc/make.profile

Code:
# ls -lah /etc/make.profile
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 48  7. Mai 00:53 /etc/make.profile -> /usr/portage/profiles/default/linux/amd64/2008.0

And i have also set the profile with eselect, as it described in the gentoo-upgrading-Guide.

Code:
# eselect profile list
Available profile symlink targets:
  [1]   default-linux/amd64/2006.1
  [2]   default-linux/amd64/2006.1/desktop
  [3]   default-linux/amd64/2006.0/no-symlinks
  [4]   default-linux/amd64/2006.1/no-multilib
  [5]   default-linux/amd64/2007.0
  [6]   default-linux/amd64/2007.0/desktop
  [7]   default-linux/amd64/2007.0/no-multilib
  [8]   default-linux/amd64/2007.0/server
  [9]   hardened/amd64
  [10]  hardened/amd64/multilib
  [11]  selinux/2007.0/amd64
  [12]  selinux/2007.0/amd64/hardened
  [13]  default/linux/amd64/2008.0 *
  [14]  default/linux/amd64/2008.0/desktop
  [15]  default/linux/amd64/2008.0/developer
  [16]  default/linux/amd64/2008.0/no-multilib
  [17]  default/linux/amd64/2008.0/server
  [18]  hardened/linux/amd64

Before the 2008-Profile there were some files in the make.profile-Directory called packages.keywords and packages.mask, now i missed them.

Code:
# ls -la /etc/make.profile/
insgesamt 28
drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096  1. Mai 02:07 .
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096  1. Apr 20:07 ..
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096  1. Apr 20:07 desktop
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096  1. Apr 20:07 developer
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096  9. Apr 17:06 no-multilib
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root   31  1. Mai 02:07 parent
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096  9. Apr 21:06 server

I used eix for checking if the packeges are masked and they look red with a star before the Version-Number:

Code:
$ eix sys-libs/glibc
[D] sys-libs/glibc
     Available versions:  (2.2)  *2.2.5-r10 *2.3.2-r12 *2.3.5-r3 *2.3.6-r4 *2.3.6-r5 *2.4-r4 *2.5-r2 *2.5-r3 *2.5-r4 **2.5.1 ~*2.6 *2.6.1 ~*2.7 *2.7-r1 *2.7-r2
   {build debug erandom gd glibc-compat20 glibc-omitfp hardened linuxthreads-tls multilib nls nptl nptlonly pic profile selinux userlocales vanilla}
Installed versions:  2.6.1(2.2)(19:28:07 07.05.2008)(multilib nls -debug -gd -glibc-omitfp -hardened -profile -selinux -vanilla)
     Homepage:            http://www.gnu.org/software/libc/libc.html
Description:         GNU libc6 (also called glibc2) C library

And it say i have to downgrade... but emerge won't downgrade these package and have no problem (like masked or something) to compile it, because of this i called eix as a liar.

What i have also try is...
to update and recompile eix.
to resync the portage-tree.

With the same result!

Thank you for your Help!

You need to run update-eix before eix will reflect the changes.

You have to update to =app-portage/eix-0.12.4 if you want to use the 2008 profile.

Thanks Chris for asking this question (I had the same issue after updating to the 2008 profile, from 2006.1!), and thanks appro for the fix. I can use eix again, woo hoo!

I've been trying to fix this issue all day. Had even deleted the portage dir and re-sync'd to bring in all new, virgin packages (which did get rid of a different issue, where it had all these digest errors, saying filesize didn't match, et cetera).

Did have to update pam (followed guide to upgrade to 0.99+, which I hadn't done yet, having no reason to before) before updating eix.

Updated eix and now it works like gangbusters. This is why I love the gentoo forums!
