public lab server, nfs + pam?, server hosted home dirs

I am trying to set up a server that will host user home directories. I would like to have the users authenticate over the network to the server using nss-mysql or some other pam plugin.

I would rather not have to rsync the /etc/passwd on the server.

What is the easiest route for setting up server mounted home directories for users on client workstations?

I'd love to have the answer to that one. For authentication, I would recommend you check out this thread. As for mounting the user's home directory automatically whent hey log on, I'd love to know that one though I haven't checked it out yet...
